Contemporary Kitchen Design Ideas For Your Kitchen Remodel

May 8th, 2017 5:16pm

One of the reasons a kitchen remodel can be both fun and overwhelming is because there are so many different styles to consider. Each style consists of different materials, colors, and more. If you've already figured out your style and it just so happens to be contemporary, you've already won half the battle.

Contemporary is a common style that is often confused with Modern. Although, Contemporary is similar to modern, it offers more flexibility and fluidity in the "rules" of the kitchen remodel. There are a few items, designs, and colors you definitely need for your contemporary kitchen design.

Go All-White

Since contemporary design consists of clean lines and colors - it makes sense that white would be a fitting color for a contemporary kitchen remodel. Don't be afraid to go all out with white. Paint the main walls and ceiling white. Then add large 10x10 or 12x12 white porcelain tiles for the flooring. Add in a white kitchen island with a white glass top and white glossy cabinets with a granite black prep counter and stainless steel appliances for contrast. You can then add a thin frame or other details to the ceiling with black paint.

Wood Elements

If you want the perfect contemporary kitchen remodel and love the look of wood design, one suggestion would be a blend of deep, near chocolate brown wood flooring alongside white matte cabinets with brushed chrome hardware. Add a wooden kitchen island directly in the center of the kitchen with wood stools, plus a splash of stainless steel with a Viking range and hood.

A Touch Of Industrial

A contemporary kitchen remodel gives you room to breathe and be flexible in the options you choose. Another option is adding a touch of industrialism to your contemporary remodel with inspiration drawn from the look of a downtown loft. These kitchens have a raw, unfinished nature to them with the use of old timber ceilings or beams with uneven dangling light fixtures.

An example of an industrial downtown loft look is to contrast light wood panel flooring with dark wood cabinets. Install slab marble countertops and a backsplash with the same type of marble. You can then add sliding face panel doors of frosted glass with a bare metal frame. Definitely the best of both worlds.

Luxurious Stone and Rich Wood

A last idea for a contemporary kitchen remodel is to install cerused-oak cabinets along with TWO calacatta marble kitchen islands adjacent to one another to make a "galley" of space between them. Install a backsplash made from nickel-tile with a floor of large format white tiles. Add in stainless steel throughout the rest of the kitchen, from the stainless steel counter for the workspace to a Wolf range, hood, and oven.
