Kitchen Projects That Are Here To Stay

October 10th, 2016 5:10pm

Every single year interior designers, decorators, and architects create a collection of what "trends" will be popular for the new year. Not only is it expensive to follow the trends, but can also be pretty daunting, since they change every year. If you're looking for a few mainstays that will be sticking around for a while, here are a few kitchen projects to consider for your home.

Quartz Counters

Quartz counters always seem to be in the lineup when it comes to trends, but it's a no-fail option that every year quartz counters will get added to some "top 10" list home design list. This is why its considered trendy, yet a safe option for counter materials. Here are a few other reason why you may want to think about adding quartz counters to your kitchen projects for the year:

1- They come in many different colors and styles.

2- They require less upkeep and maintenance than granite.

3- It's more forgiving than granite

4- It comes in different finishes

Open Kitchens

Open layouts are here to stay and are another one of the kitchen projects to consider adding to your list. Not only does an open kitchen encourage interaction, but if you don't have a separate dining room, it helps create a kitchen/entertainment / dining room experience.

Induction Burners Are Still In

While this isn't technically a kitchen project per se, it does have to do with the efficiency of a kitchen! An induction burner is not only one of the safest and easiest ways to cook, but the way that the burners are designed creates an aesthetically pleasing appliance perfect for any kitchen. In fact, if you have a small kitchen, an induction burner is definitely going to be something to consider. Induction burners utilize very little heat which means your kitchen will remain cool even while cooking and surfaces are safe to touch! An induction burner also doesn't require a large range, which opens up dozens of creative design possibilities for your other kitchen projects.

Decorate Your Ceiling Too

The ceiling is one of the most overlooked design pieces in many homes. While thinking of projects for the kitchen, you probably immediately think of the walls, floors, appliances, paint, islands, etc. But how often do you think of look of your kitchen ceiling? You may not realize the potential your ceiling has going for it. For example, shallow coffers can make a low ceiling or small kitchen seem bigger than it really is. Moldings can add personality, pizazz or certain design aspects that you were once missing in your kitchen. Even if you decide to just do the bare minimum by painting the ceiling, you can still give the kitchen an interestingly beautiful look simply by experimenting with contrasting paint colors!

LED Lighting

Every year the kitchen project "top 10 lists" will show some form of LED lighting. Whether it's hanging pendant lights shining down on your island, under the cabinet LED lights, or toe kick LED lights which add ambiance to a room, LED lights in all forms are definitely here to stay.

Wood-Like Floors

Hardwood floors in kitchens have been popular for years - and that's not about to change. If a hardwood floor project is not exactly what you're in the market for, there are other wood-like floors to consider, including; porcelain planks, wood laminates, and even luxury vinyl with designs that look JUST like wood, but are more cost efficient.
