Small Details, Big Design Impact
Not every beautiful transformation begins with walls coming down. Sometimes, the details that define a home are the ones you touch every day: the cabinet finish, the countertop edge, the storage tower, the island color, the way one material quietly connects one room to the next.
Kitchens by Good Guys was brought in for a focused but essential part of this project: cabinetry and countertops. Our team helped complete the homeowner’s vision with cabinetry and surfaces throughout several key spaces, including the kitchen, primary bathroom, fireplace built-ins, laundry room, smaller bathrooms, and a hallway key-drop area.
Project Spotlight
Style: Refined contemporary cabinetry with classic and high-contrast details
Scope: Cabinetry and countertop design throughout key areas of the home
Our Role: Cabinetry and countertop provider for a homeowner-managed remodel
Standout Features: White inset kitchen cabinetry, dark navy-stained poplar island, veined waterfall-style island countertop, fireplace built-ins, light-stained poplar laundry cabinetry

The Problem: A Homeowner-Managed Remodel Needed the Right Finish Partner
The homeowner had already taken on a major role in managing the larger remodel, but cabinetry and countertops required a more specialized eye.
Cabinet and countertop selections have a major influence on the final result. These are the details people notice first and use every day: the cabinet profile, the stain color, the countertop movement, the storage placement, and the balance between light and dark finishes.
The challenge was creating a clear finish story that felt layered, elevated, and coherent without making every room look the same.
Kitchens by Good Guys was brought in to provide the cabinetry and countertops for the project, helping turn those detailed selections into one polished, connected design package.

The Solution: A Cohesive Cabinetry and Countertop Plan
Instead of treating each room as a separate design decision, we developed a layered finish approach that allowed the home to feel connected without feeling repetitive. The goal was to create continuity across the kitchen, living area, bathrooms, laundry room, and hallway storage while still giving each space its own purpose and personality.
The cabinetry palette balanced three distinct finishes: a classic painted white for the kitchen perimeter, a rich dark navy-stained poplar used for contrast and continuity, and a lighter stained poplar that brought warmth to the laundry room. Paired with bold veined countertops, the result was a finish story that felt elevated, intentional, and visually balanced.
For a project where Kitchens by Good Guys was brought in specifically for cabinetry and countertops, the impact was significant: storage became more refined, focal points became more defined, and the home gained a consistent design language from one space to the next.
Cabinetry and Countertop Highlights
Kitchen Cabinetry With Classic Contrast
We created a bright, timeless kitchen perimeter with white inset cabinetry, then added depth through a dark navy-stained island. The veined countertop brings movement and polish, turning the island into a strong focal point while keeping the overall kitchen refined and balanced.

Fireplace Built-Ins That Connect the Living Space
We carried the deeper cabinetry tone into the living area with fireplace built-ins that add storage, symmetry, and visual weight. This helped connect the open living space back to the kitchen while giving the fireplace wall a more finished, intentional presence.

Bathroom Vanity With Elevated Storage
In the primary bathroom, we used dark cabinetry, brass hardware, and a center storage tower to create a furniture-like vanity with strong symmetry and everyday function. The lighter countertop keeps the room feeling bright while allowing the cabinetry to make a statement.

Laundry Room Cabinetry That Feels Fully Designed
We used light-stained poplar cabinetry in the laundry room to bring warmth, storage, and generous countertop space to a hardworking area of the home.
A Hallway Key-Drop With Everyday Purpose
We also created a smaller cabinetry moment near the entrance, giving the homeowners a practical landing place for keys and daily essentials. It is a simple feature, but it shows how thoughtful cabinetry can improve the way a home functions every day.
Why These Details Matter
Cabinetry and countertops are some of the most visible and most-used features in a home. They shape storage, define focal points, influence the color palette, and affect how finished each room feels.
In this Scottsdale project, the cabinetry and countertops created continuity. The white kitchen perimeter, dark navy-stained poplar accents, light laundry cabinetry, and veined countertops worked together.
It demonstrates the importance of a strong design-build process in which planning and execution come together as one team.

What Our Clients Say About Kitchens by Good Guys
"This company is absolutely amazing! The designers, Dean, and the entire crew are professional and all around great to work with. Our kitchen and two bathrooms were completely remodeled and not only did the results look amazing but it was done 4 weeks early…yes early! The whole process went so smooth. The app they use was really helpful for seeing the calendar, making payments, and sending messages. The crew worked so hard everyday and kept the area clean when they left. I would recommend Kitchen By Good Guys to everyone you wants to do a remodel, they are the best!"

"We needed our master bathroom remodeled and contacted a few companies that said they were too busy or just never called back. Had a few other quotes too but Good Guys came through with what we really wanted and very easy to work with. One stop shop. Amber - Design Team came out and took the time to listen to our thoughts and gave her ideas too. We went to the showroom and she had the design displayed on a screen in 3-D. She also had samples of tile, cabinets, granite etc. already laid out when we arrived. We went with her suggestions. Good Guys worked within our budget as well. We received a breakdown of the costs and they use a website called BuilderTrend that keeps you up-to-date on what they were going to do each day. Project Manager came every day to make sure everything was going as planned. Communication was great - if we had a question or concerned, we received an answer within 24 hours. Good Guys finished the project in less time than the original end date as well. Would definitely recommend."

"Kitchens by Good Guys does excellent work!!! We gutted our kitchen and took out a wall. Good Guys didn’t shy away from the project, in fact they knocked it out of the park!! We love, love, love our new kitchen. From start to finish, all staff we worked with were professional, knowledgeable, creative and a pleasure to work with. Good guys provided a timeline for the project, from purchasing/building of the cabinets to the final inspection approval. They were realistic in their timeline and were done when they said they would be. We were not in the house for the project but Good Guys use a platform where they upload photos of the progress of the project. We appreciated this extra step. I cannot say enough about this team. You will not regret hiring Good Guys!!"

"We chose Kitchens By Good Guys to remodel our AZ home. This included the kitchen, master and guest bathrooms, re-pipe plumbing, new flooring, and new paint throughout the home. We couldn't be more pleased with our choice. I can't say enough about their fantastic team! Emily and Simone helped us make design choices for the house and were extremely easy to work with. They went out of their way to find what we were looking for! As far as the remodel itself, we were out of town while it was taking place. Still, everything went better than we could have imagined. Things were done according to a set schedule and the guys took pictures of everything so we could give our input if necessary. The guys were always extremely polite and accommodating. We are so pleased with the quality of work done by Dan and his crew. We highly recommend Kitchens By Good Guys!."

"We had waited for years to remodel our kitchen and when it was finally time to begin the process, we were unsure where to start. Kitchens by Good Guys was our first stop, and I knew they would be our last. However, we wanted to do our diligence and spoke with several other contractors. None held a candle to the professionalism, knowledge, quality cabinetry, kindness, amazing ideas and confidence that we experienced with Simone & Emily.
Always prepared, one step ahead and so much fun to work with, this project was a dream because of them! Smooth, on time, good surprises and the end result is fabulous and more than we could have ever wished for. We wouldn't change a thing about our kitchen! Dan, the Project Manager is not only amazing at what he does, but a true joy to work with as are his crew. From start to finish, the transparency, communication and setting expectations of the Good Guys team was spot on."

"The process went smoothly and was totally stress free. Everyone in the team, from the design headed by Simone, through the demolishing and rebuild headed by Dan, were wonderful to work with. They came on time and did what they promised to accomplish that day. Dean, the owner checked on the progress several times and came at the end to make sure all was done to my satisfaction. I am thinking of redoing my kitchen next year, and will definitely use Kitchens by Good Guys again."
Ron K.
"After having nightmare experiences with other contractors Good Guys was a breath of fresh air. They listened to what I wanted and after the very first visit gave me a design that was almost exactly what I had envisioned. They also had great suggestions for things I had not considered. They communicated with me every step of the way, even providing pictures and updates via their app while I was traveling. They were very respectful of me and my space and it was the cleanest construction project I have ever lived through. Of course there were a few challenges and changes along the way but they handled them professionally and I never felt like they were trying to increase the scope to increase the budget. I will not hesitate to use them on my next project!"
